Surrounded by lush, green hills, Nai Thon Beach is located on the west coast of Phuket Island about seven kilometers south of the international airport. Lined with casuarina trees, the beach is about one kilometer in length and considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches on the island.
The seawater is crystal clear and it is said that the golden sand actually squeaks when walked upon. There are headlands and corals at both ends of the beach and these are home to many fishes. The corals are suitable for snorkeling.
Unfortunately, swimming is dangerous during the monsoon season. Naithon is relatively undeveloped – only recently did it get its first ATM machine. Perhaps this is due, at least in part, to the fact that it is part of the Sirinat National Park. The beach is seldom crowded and there are no venders or jet ski operators to disturb a peaceful afternoon of contemplation.
Naithon Bungalows has places for under 600 baht a night. The Naithon Seaview Hotel, with places between 600 baht and 1,500 baht a night comes highly recommended.
A luxury development next to the Naithonburi Resort on the beach road, the Pearl of Naithon
There are few places to eat, shop or be entertained in Nai Thon. Most of the activity that exists – outside of the resorts – in on the one and only road, the beach road. There are five or so restaurants, some of which are only open during high season, and a few food stalls.
There is a minimart, Naithon Mart, where one can find an ATM machine. There is also a dive shop nearby. There are no bars. Patong Beach, the center of island night light life is a forty kilometer drive away, so those who desire a more exciting nightlife must carefully consider if they want to stay at Nai Thon Beach.
Naithon can be approached both from the north and the south but both approaches are a little confusing, as they dip in and out of the jungle, touching the coast here and there and then heading back into the jungle again.
