Phuket town, except for perhaps Chalong, is the only major destination on the east coast with a strong nightlife …and it does have nightlife although it is a little more conservative than that of Patong.
It is somewhat more suited to couples and mixed groups than are the more tourist-oriented beaches, although it is still welcoming for single and small groups of men.
There are two major concentrations of bars in Phuket: Rasada Road in the middle of “old” Phuket, and Samkong, a small section of Yaowarat Road between “old town” and Tesco.
These places are noted for live music. Inside the Samkong area is Timber Hut, which is sometimes classified as a discotheque.
In addition, several large and loud bars are found scattered throughout the city, such as The Peak, Ozone, and KorTor Mor. There are also two soapy massage places in Phuket, The Grand Plaza Hotel on Tilok-U-Thit Road, and the Pearl Hotel at 42 Montri Road. For those who tire of bars and girls and alcohol, one can watch Western cinema at the SFX Coliseum Cinema at Festival Center or at Ocean Plaza; or go bowling at one of the town’s three bowling alleys.
